Aerosmith’s Hollywood Bowl Finale: Run-DMC, Dream On, and “Cockroaches”
Aerosmith onstage (archival) — not from the Nov. 1, 2026 Hollywood Bowl dates.
Aerosmith closed California, Dream On night two at the Hollywood Bowl with Run-DMC on Walk This Way, a Beatles cover, and Tyler’s cockroaches jab at Bill Burr.
Aerosmith finished the second and final night of California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends at the Hollywood Bowl on November 1, 2026 — and the guitar-world headline writes itself. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry brought the band’s seven-song closer, reunited with original drummer Joey Kramer for one song, and pulled Run-DMC onstage for “Walk This Way” before slamming the night shut with “Train Kept A-Rollin’.”
Guitar World’s Clay Marshall published the on-the-ground night-two review on November 2. Rolling Stone, Blabbermouth, and Ultimate Classic Rock logged the same arc: guests first, Aerosmith last, Run-DMC as the cultural mic-drop. Whether these two Bowl dates were a soft goodbye, a film shoot, or a bridge back to touring is still unanswered — Tyler made sure the room heard his take.

Night Two: Guests, Then the Headliner
The “& Friends” block ran like a curated Aerosmith karaoke with real stakes. Per Guitar World’s setlist and matching reports from Louder / Blabbermouth:
- Marcus King opened with “Same Old Song and Dance”
- Jerry Cantrell (with Alice in Chains’ Mike Inez, plus Richie Kotzen) hit “Draw the Line” and “Nobody’s Fault”
- Tom Morello and Lzzy Hale tore through “Kings and Queens” and “Round and Round” — GW notes Morello’s guitar carried a handwritten “Dream On” message underneath
- Billy Idol / Steve Stevens returned for “Livin’ on the Edge”
- Grace Potter and Train’s Pat Monahan worked the MTV-era ballads (“What It Takes,” “Angel,” “Cryin’”)
- Heart (Ann & Nancy Wilson) did “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Barracuda”
- The Black Crowes dug into Rocks-era deep cuts
- Guns N’ Roses covered four Aerosmith songs (including “Mama Kin”) plus “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Nightrain”
Then the headliners. Night two put touring drummer John Douglas behind the kit for most of Aerosmith’s set (Dave Grohl had sat in on night one). Fireworks kicked off “Toys in the Attic.” The band ran “Back in the Saddle,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On,” and a Beatles cover — “Come Together” — before the Walk This Way stunt.

“We’re Missing Something” — Then Run-DMC
Rolling Stone’s night-two report quotes Tyler stopping “Walk This Way” mid-start:
“Something’s wrong,” he said. “We’re missing something. I think you know what I mean. We’re missing some people!”
Rev Run and DMC walked out. Joey Kramer joined John Douglas on drums. Guitar World compared the moment to “witnessing a historical battle reenactment” of the 1986 rap-rock breakthrough. Rolling Stone adds Tyler’s onstage line near the end of the song: the collaboration “broke through the wall together.”
The night closed on “Train Kept A-Rollin’.”

Bill Burr, Farewells, and the Cockroach Line
Comedian emcee Bill Burr had told Thursday’s crowd these were the band’s final shows — a claim that lit up social feeds. Tyler pushed back on night two. Rolling Stone quotes him:
“So Bill Burr said these are our final shows, huh?”
And later:
“At the end of the fuckin’ world, there will only be cockroaches, Aerosmith and I guess Bill Burr!”
Guitar World’s paraphrase of a related quip lands in the same neighborhood (cockroaches / Aerosmith / Burr). We’re sticking to Rolling Stone’s wording above for the exact quote.
Context that matters for guitar readers: these were Aerosmith’s first full-band shows since the Peace Out farewell tour collapsed in 2023 after Tyler’s fractured larynx. Kramer’s Walk This Way cameo was widely noted as his first stage appearance with the band since around 2020. None of that proves a permanent goodbye — and Tyler’s Burr jab suggests the band isn’t ready to be written off.

Why This Is Tonight’s Lead
It’s the biggest fresh guitarist/band story in the last 24–48 hours that TGP hasn’t already covered: a Nov. 1 event, Nov. 2 reviews across Guitar World, Rolling Stone, and the metal/classic-rock wires, with Joe Perry front and center and a Walk This Way reunion that still owns guitar-culture real estate. Iommi’s MusicRadar “accidental hit” piece (Nov. 1) largely revisits older Total Guitar quotes. Townshend’s Jimmy Page note (GW Oct. 31) is charming but smaller than a Hollywood Bowl finale with Run-DMC.
Related on TGP: history of the riff — Aerosmith “Walk This Way”, Happy Birthday Joe Perry, and the current lead it would replace — Power of 3 “Taxi” / Hendrix riff.
