Fractal Axe-Fx III Firmware 33: NAM A2 and TONE3000 Land in the Rack
Axe-Fx III — official Fractal Audio product imagery.
Fractal’s Axe-Fx III firmware 33 adds a NAM Player block for NAM A2 captures plus TONE3000 browsing in Axe-Edit — free update, Cygnus X-4, and Mark I cab-bank warning.
Fractal Audio’s flagship rack is joining the NAM A2 party. Partner TONE3000 announced on October 30, 2026 that firmware 33 for the Axe-Fx III adds native Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) A2 playback and in-editor browsing of the TONE3000 library — a free update that lets Fractal’s modeling sit next to open capture tech instead of pretending the two camps can’t share a preset.
European distributor G66 lists firmware 33.01 (zip dated Oct. 31, 2026) for Original and Mark II units, with matching guidance to update Axe-Edit first. Reputable coverage from Guitar.com, Guitar Radar, and NoiseHarmony echoes the same feature set. Fact flag: as of the evening of Nov. 2, 2026 (ET), Fractal’s own U.S. downloads page still headlined Firmware 32.06 in our check — treat EU/partner availability and the TONE3000 + Fractal forum documentation as the confirmed story, and tell readers to verify the current zip on Fractal’s downloads / forum before flashing.

What Firmware 33 Adds (Per Fractal / TONE3000)
NAM Player block
Fractal’s forum release notes for the 33.00 public beta (posted by FractalAudio, Oct. 6, 2026) introduce a dedicated NAM block that plays captures of amps, overdrives, fuzzes, compressors, DI boxes, preamps, and more. TONE3000’s Oct. 30 post brands the shipping integration around NAM A2 and a NAM Player block with modeled tone stacks plus Bright / Bright Cap controls.
Key limits from Fractal’s own notes and TONE3000’s summary:
- NAM runs on the same DSP core as the Amp block
- Full vs Lite algorithms (Full ≈ 6× the CPU of Lite, per Fractal)
- Configurations include two Amp blocks, two NAM blocks (both Full), or one Amp + two NAM (second NAM drops to Lite on non-Turbo; Turbo keeps Full)
- Storage: up to 256 captures on Mark II / separate NAM memory; 128 on original Mark I (see warning below)
- A2 only — A1 `.nam` files are rejected (Axe-Edit / Fractal-Bot warn on A1 import)
TONE3000 inside Axe-Edit III
TONE3000:
Instead of downloading NAM files from our website and transferring them to your Axe-Fx III manually, you’ll be able to discover and play captures right inside Axe-Edit…
Requirements stated by TONE3000: firmware 33.0+ and Axe-Edit III 1.15.03+. Path: Tools → TONE3000 → sign in → search / Discover / Creators → install to a hardware slot.
The rest of the 33 drop
Beyond NAM, firmware 33 packages (per TONE3000 + Fractal notes):
- Cygnus X-4 amp modeling updates
- Remastered Drive block behavior
- 13 new DynaCabs (including “Pre-Rola” models)
- Faster Pitch block with Formant controls
- Improvements to Flanger, Reverb, Plex, Filter, Megatap, and more
Firmware 33 is described as a free update for Axe-Fx III owners.

Mark I Owners: Back Up User Cab Bank 2
Fractal’s release notes are blunt. On Axe-Fx III Mark I, NAM storage replaces User Cab Bank 2. IRs left in that bank are permanently erased when you update. Mark II units have separate NAM memory, so Bank 2 stays put.
Practical order from Fractal / G66 guidance: update Axe-Edit first → back up system/presets (and Mark I Bank 2) with Fractal-Bot → install firmware → then DynaCab data (v1.10 called out with the 33 package).

Why It Matters (and the Fender Parallel)
NAM A2 is the same open capture architecture Fender just confirmed for the Tone Master Pro. Fractal’s twist is coexistence: a preset can run NAM Player blocks and a traditional Fractal Amp block, then hang Fractal effects, scenes, and DynaCabs around the capture. That’s a bigger deal for existing Axe-Fx III owners than another boutique stomp tease.
We passed on Behringer’s Nov. 2 $10–$15 pedal range tease (no ship date, no SKUs) and Pedal Pawn’s solid but smaller Say Wah (£327, Nov. 1) because firmware 33 is the higher-impact gear story for players already in digital rigs — and it cross-links cleanly to TGP’s live TMP NAM coverage.

How to Get It (Cautious Checklist)
1. Confirm the current firmware zip on Fractal’s Axe-Fx III downloads and/or the official forum thread / your regional distributor (G66 lists 33.01). 2. Update to a matching Axe-Edit III build (1.15.03+ for TONE3000 per TONE3000). 3. Back up everything. Mark I: User Cab Bank 2. 4. Flash firmware, then DynaCab data if prompted. 5. Drop a NAM Player block, load an A2 capture, and optionally open Tools → TONE3000.
On-unit capture training is not shipping day-one — TONE3000 says a capture utility for Axe-Edit is “coming soon”; for now you play A2 files created elsewhere.

FAQ
Is it free? Yes — described as a free firmware update for Axe-Fx III owners.
A1 or A2? A2 only.
Does FM9 / FM3 get this too? This story is Axe-Fx III firmware 33; do not assume floor units without a separate Fractal note.
Can I still use Fractal Amp models? Yes — presets can combine NAM Player with a traditional Amp block (see Full/Lite rules).
