Why they matter
Instrumental guitar rebuilt for the streaming generation — trap rhythm, nylon strings, absurd technique.
Polyphia took instrumental guitar music, stripped out the rock band framing, and rebuilt it on top of trap and hip-hop production. That decision — more than any individual technique — is why they reach an audience that has no interest in traditional guitar culture.
Henson's playing combines tapped harmonics, hybrid picking and nylon-string fingerstyle with a pop songwriter's sense of hook, and his Ibanez TOD10N has been one of the best-selling signature instruments of the last decade.
Purists complain about the production. The counterargument is that millions of teenagers picked up a guitar because of it.
